At
a ceremony for an opening of a women's center, the young people
in the choir taught us a dance that was difficult and complicated
for me, requiring clapping hands to a different beat from what we
were doing with our feet. I was instructed by our guide not to move
the top of my body at all. I thought we were invited to participate
in whatever way we wanted. I didn't realize I was expected to be
part of the rehearsed group.
